Flash

Flash aka “Croftcnoc Flash” is an super talented rising 9yo 15.2 TB gelding. DOB is 9.10.2012. Type Flash is a cute little type for a TB, athletic yet compact in a smaller package suitable for a lady rider or capable junior that loves to jump. He is a very striking deep chestnut colour, and although he isn’t blingy, he really looks like an elite performer when working in an outline under saddle. Temperament We have found Flash to have a sweet temperament on the ground with excellent ground manners, he has been an absolute pleasure to do everything with. He has been very well behaved in the stables, day yards and paddocks here and is good alone or around other horses. During his stay here we have found him to be forward but not hot and we brought him back into work after a few months off. We have found him relatively straight forward to ride both on the arena, jumping and he loves hacking out on the roads around our farm. Experience Flash has been out and about doing a bit of everything but has especially focused on show jumping. He started his show jumping career with a rider who trained him up off the track and produced him to being competitive at 110cm. He was a feature Horse on Channel 7’s Jump Off Series 2. Since then, he has been with a junior rider and has dabbled in showing, SJ comps and in hand equitation clinics. She has now outgrown him and not enough time due to her study commitments. Paces Flash has 3 regular paces with an especially good canter which probably explains his exceptional jump! He maintains a consistent rhythm and just ticks along but would be better suited to a quiet rider who has soft hands and just allows the horse to travel in a rhythm and doesn’t interfere too much. He has a relaxed yet active walk, an active, ground-covering trot with good natural swing and a super scopey, balanced canter with loads of jump. Dressage Training Rhythm - Regular and consistent, is responsive to the leg without feeling hot or fast, maintains a rhythm independently when you soften reins Suppleness - Flash has a basic foundation of inside leg to outside rein connection but as he has just come back into work we are working on the quality of ribcage bend on small circles to enable him to tackle some more complicated lateral work. He needs to bend a little more especially to the right but is willing and trainable so won’t take long to improve suppleness. Supple over the back, will reach into the hand and easy to sit on in trot and canter. Contact - Flash is steady and light, can get a bit low at the times but responds well to a half-halt to shift his balance to being more uphill, he is establishing independent self-carriage and starting to engage and push more. Will stretch long and low. Although Flash hasn’t done competitive dressage, he has a very solid foundation of training, is very comfortable to ride and willing to try so could start the dressage phase of an eventing career now. Jumping As a jumper, Flash really has it all. He is bold and has been willing to give absolutely everything a go. He has exceptional technique, he is sharp in front with good lift with his knees, reaches over his back and a really flashy back end! Even though he is smaller, he has a good length of stride in the canter and easily makes distances. He has jumped competitively up to 110cm and would be quick against the clock. His bravery when approaching new fences makes him an awesome candidate for cross country and we can see him going on to have a great eventing career or further his show jumping career. Rider Suitability Although we have found Flash to be very quiet and sensible, he is not suitable for a beginner or nervous rider as we feel he gets confidence from his rider and still needs occasional reassurance. He has been ridden by all of us here and we have all found him to be a delight. Jaelina, our 14yo working student, has been hacking him out alone on the roads and is the one jumping him in the videos. We feel he would be best suited to an intermediate or competent junior rider who has soft hands and is quiet but confident. He would make an outstanding pony club/interschool/EA show jumper/eventer prospect for the right rider. We truly find this horse so fun and comfortable to ride, and I personally really look forward to hopping on him every day. He will make a really great, honest and versatile competition partner for an ambitious rider looking to climb up the levels and win lots of ribbons along the way. Located Nyora, VIC.
